The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected armed robber in Calabar, recovering a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, hard drugs, and other incriminating items.

Police spokesperson SP Irene Ugbo disclosed in a statement that the arrest followed a distress call at about 10:47 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, from a community leader on Edim Otop Street.

Operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad immediately mobilised to the scene, where the suspect, identified as Daniel Etim Udoh, allegedly stabbed and robbed his victim, Mr. Sunday Ofem of No. 6 Boropit, Satellite Town.

While in custody, Udoh reportedly attempted to escape but was shot in the leg by officers to prevent his flight. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to the police clinic, where they are said to be responding to treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua, commended the swift response of the officers and reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing the police with timely and credible information. (Saturday Tribune)
