The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected cult members in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old man, Kamoru, also known as “Keeper.”
His brutal killing sent shockwaves through residents of the Ebute Meta area of the state.
Kamoru was brutally murdered in broad daylight on July 17, 2025, during a cult war between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.
Those arrested have been identified as Raphael Ashim (30), Wasiu Kareem (33), Sadiq Olabisi (40), Olamilekan Oluwatosin (27), Olalekan Olugbodi (54) and Ibrahim Oladimeji, (22).
In a shocking confession, the suspects revealed the motive behind the gruesome murder, providing a chilling insight into the world of cult violence.
“We killed Kamoru alias ‘Keeper’ to avenge the killing of some of our members,” the suspects admitted to a team of investigating police officers.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested after a thorough investigation into Kamoru’s murder. They are currently being held at the Homicide Unit of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti Street, Yaba.
In their confession, the suspects alleged that Kamoru’s murder was a retaliatory attack stemming from a bitter rivalry between the two cult groups.
The suspects claimed that Kamoru was a member of a rival cult group and that his murder was intended to send a message to his associates.
The police have assured the public that they are doing everything in their power to bring those responsible for Kamoru’s murder to justice.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests in a WhatsApp message.
Hundeyin disclosed that on July 17, 2025, detectives from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Surulere, embarked on an intelligence-led operation in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos. During the operation, the officers arrested the six suspects.
“All of the arrested suspects were involved in a cult clash in Ebute Meta and its environs, which led to the gruesome murder of one Kamoru alias ‘Keeper,’ 30,” he said.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover their operational tools, while the suspects have been charged to court and are awaiting trial,” he added. (Daily Trust)
