A widow, Mrs. Chidimma Orah, has regained custody of her late husband’s corpse months after it was allegedly seized by her in-laws, following the intervention of the Anambra State Government.
Orah who is an indigene of Ufuma in Orumba North Local Government Area of the State, in a video shared by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare headed by Commissioner Ify Obinabo, Mrs. Orah recounted her ordeal, expressing her heartfelt appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Ministry for stepping in to resolve the matter.
Narrating her ordeal in the hands of her in-laws, the widow said that the corpse of her husband had been in the possession of her in-laws, who disrupted the burial ceremony originally scheduled for May 1, 2025, and allegedly demanded that she relinquished her house before they would release her husband’s remains to her.
Meanwhile, it took the intervention of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to secure a court order granting the widow access to the seized corpse.
According to Mrs. Orah, she was able to confirm and access the corpse at its new location in Isulo Mortuary, in Orumba North Local Area Council.
She said, "My joy is that I have now seen my husband’s corpse and will soon be able to give him a proper burial.
"I wish to thank our Solution Governor for his good works, and the Ministry for their strong support. I also hope they will continue to assist others in similar situations."
While further advising victims of abuse or oppression not to suffer in silence but to speak out, she noted that Governor Soludo’s administration is committed to justice and protection for all citizens.
