Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged repentant political thugs to abandon violence, promising rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Speaking at a one-day interface with cluster leaders of the youths under the Safe Corridor Project, the governor, represented by Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the era of taking up arms for thuggery or antisocial acts must end.

“We will rehabilitate you and place you in safe environments where you can become self-reliant. Each of you will be assigned roles where you can best fit in,” Waiya assured.

He disclosed that some previously profiled beneficiaries had died, prompting a fresh revalidation exercise to update records.

He emphasised the programme’s non-political nature, stressing that it solely aims to curb thuggery and related vices.

Stakeholders present included the Kano Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the State Commissioner of Police, and other partners in the fight against drug abuse and youth violence. (Daily Trust)
