Train in motion
There was a panic on Thursday morning when a train coach detached from the rest of its compartments along the Ladipo section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The incident disrupted movement and caused confusion in the area.
It happened around 8:00 a.m. and lasted for over 30 minutes. The train was travelling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa in Lagos when its rear compartment disconnected.
An eyewitness, Oloruntoba Omodele, said the sudden separation startled both passengers and people nearby. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
“Everyone was shocked by what happened, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” Omodele said.
Ladipo, an area often affected by traffic congestion, has seen a number of transport incidents over the years, prompting concerns about safety.
Emergency responders were said to have arrived quickly to manage the situation and ease the traffic buildup.
Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the mechanical fault.
Meanwhile, transport experts are calling for a thorough investigation and stronger maintenance efforts, especially in major urban transport routes like Lagos. (Nigerian Tribune)
