The executive governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has stated that Obosi town in Anambra State, ought to be the number twenty-two LGA in the state considering its large landmass and humongous population.
He made the statement at the Obosi township stadium on August 4, 2025 during a rally organized by Obosi people to endorse his bid for a second term in office.
Gov. Soludo said that constitutional constraints constitute a hindrance to making Obosi LGA a reality while stating, unequivocally, that Anambra state has constitutional powers to create Developmental Areas.
"Obosi is a great town. It is the home town of Emeka Anyaoku, Mike Ajaegbo, late Igwe Isaac Iweka, Osita Chidoka, and others. Lately, we've Tony One Week Muonagor, Ifeanyi Okoma, among others.
"The number of registered voters in Obosi outnumbers the numbers of registered voters in most LGAs in Nigeria. Based on this, Obosi ought to be a local government area; and it ought to have at least ten wards.
"Creating new local government area is a constitutional matter; however, we can create Developmental Areas," Soludo said.
More so, Gov. Soludo apologized to Obosi people for the act of brigandage perpetrated by the Special Anti-Touting Squad of Anambra (SASA), which caused colossal damage to Obosi town hall and vehicles parked within its precincts.
He, also, extended his unreserved apologies to people who were injured and dispossessed of their money and belongings during SASA's invasion of Obosi.
"I went to Obosi town hall to witness firsthand what happened there.
"I am sorry for what happened.
"Repair work is ongoing at Obosi town hall; its ceilings will be fixed too.
"I would like you to know that Obosi town hall is a historical monument; and I will return to it," Gov. Soludo said.
Gov. Soludo, while emphasizing that SASA was created to fight crimes in Anambra State, made the promise to reform the security outfit's mode of operation.
He thanked Obosi people for the endorsement given to his reelection bid and made the promise that he would surpass his leadership achievements in his first tenure if reelected to a second term in office.
"Obosi people have said that I should continue in office because of my good works and leadership style.
"So I am thanking them for the endorsement, which they have given to my reelection bid. I appreciate it.
"I am promising that I will surpass my achievements during my first term in office if I am reelected.
"And I will fix Owelle-Aja, which is being ravaged by floods.
"Again, the new mega city that Anambra state will build will be given an appropriate name that will reflect its geographical location so as to avert communal conflicts," Gov. Soludo said.
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo received fifty million naira from Obosi people for his electioneering, in addition to receiving a cow from Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III) and sundry gifts from individuals and Soludo Support Groups.
A mammoth crowd, which was composed of government dignitaries, APGA big guns, members of Soludo Support Groups, and people from diverse socio-cultural cum political backgrounds thronged the Obosi township stadium to witness the endorsement of Gov. Soludo for second term in office by the people of Obosi ancient kingdom.
