Gallant Nigerian troops
By ZAGAZOLA MAKAMA
Troops conducting counter-insurgency operations in Borno State have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in the early hours of Sunday at Mangada, located near the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 2:15 a.m. when an unknown number of insurgents attempted to dislodge a deployed security position in the area. A reinforcement team was immediately mobilised to support the troops under attack.
While en route, the reinforcement team encountered a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) ambush, which was swiftly cleared without casualties. Upon linking up with the troops on ground, the combined forces engaged the attackers and repelled the assault after a fierce gun battle.
No casualties were recorded on the side of the troops, and no equipment losses were reported. However, blood stains and signs of injuries littered the area, indicating likely terrorist casualties, though an exact figure could not be ascertained. (Zagazola)
