Aftermath of the heavy rainfall
A bridge located along the Shendam – Garkawa road in the Shendam local government area of Plateau State has collapsed following heavy rainfall for several days in the area.
Residents told Daily Trust that the heavy rainfall experienced over three consecutive days caused the collapse of the bridge.
Our correspondent reports that the bridge located links different parts of the state.
Farmers in the area also said they have been using the road to transport their farm inputs to different places, adding that the current situation of the bridge is causing them a lot of hardship.
Wayu Bamga, a resident, lamented the situation saying, “The collapse of the bridge has been causing hardship. We have been struggling. The government should please come to our aid because the situation is very difficult without the bridge. The bridge initially collapsed last year and partial repair was done but it didn’t work. That is why it collapsed again.”
Another resident, Nanlong Nyas, said, “The bridge has been properly repaired. I remember, last week, the bridge was repaired and after the recent rainfall, the bridge collapsed again. We have been suffering crossing through the river with goods.”
Residents and commuters have called on the government to help repair the bridge to enable free movement of people and goods. (Daily Trust)
