Youths of host community allege marginalisation by Chevron

Youths of Ugborodo Community, Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, have decried marginalisaation of the community by oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited.

The youths in a statement signed by Ofe Nene, National Youth Chairman of Ugborodo community said Chevron Nigeria Limited had continued to undermine and shortchanged the community in all their operations despite the fact that they are host to several oil wells and facilities.

The youths lamented that Chevron Nigeria Limited was enslaving members of the community whom they employed as casual workers to the extent that there is no single increment in their meager salary for over 15 years.

They explained, “one very painful part is that though it’s our community indigenes that do most of the jobs in the CNL tank farm, none of them has been staffed for over 15 years and none has been given benefit as it is with other staff of the company from other parts of the country.”

The youths appealed to the management of CNL to redeploy SCM Supervisor, PGPA Supervisor and the Security Supervisor of CNL to other areas of operation, accusing the officers as being the mastermind of all the evils meted on people of the community by the company.
