One killed as natives, police clash in FCT

FCT police clashing with Kuchibiyi natives




One person has been killed while two others sustained bullet injuries following a clash that broke out between natives of Kuchibiyi community in Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the police.

A resident of Kuchibiyi, Samuel Dangana, who confirmed the incident to our reporter through the telephone on Saturday, said trouble started when some land grabbers in company of some police operatives from Byazhin division invaded the community and attempted to take over a parcel of land in the community.

He said the natives upon sighting the security operatives quickly moblized to barricade to the road in order to prevent the alleged land grabbers access the land.

He said altercation ensued when the natives in their large whielding sticks and stones confronted the security operatives, in which he said the security operatives allegedly started shooting teargas and lives bullets on the natives.

“The land grabbers came in company of the some policemen trying to mark out some portions of land, in which the natives now blocked the road to prevent them. And the next thing, we started hearing shots of gun and teargas. One of the natives died from bullet wound while two others were injured,”he claimed.

Dangana said the two injured indigenes of the community were receiving treatment at a hospital in Bwari town.

The councillor representing Byazhin/ Kuchibiyi ward of Bwari area council, Hon Dogara J. Ahmed, also confirmed the incident, saying one person died while two others sustained injuries during the clash, even as he said he is yet to get full details of the incident.

“Yes, I have just been informed that one person died while two others were injured but I just arrived the community right now to get details about the incident. I will get back to you later, “he told our reporter through the telephone.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT police SP Adeh Josephine, said some suspects were arrested following a civil unrest at Kuchibiyi village in Bwari.

She said a. land dispute was responsible for the issue.

Adeh, a Superintendent of police, in a statement on Saturday, said the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) of Byazhin and Kubwa divisions swiftly moblized to the scene and brought the situation under control.

She said some arrest has been made while investigation is currently ongoing.

Adeh, did not respond to the alleged death of one of the natives and other others that sustained bullets injuries when our reporter sent her message through WhatsApp.

She, however, said the FCT police commissioner CP Ajao Saka Adewale, condemned the actions of the youths for attacking the police operatives and warned that such behavior will not be condoned, while firm action will be taken against anyone who attacks police officers while responding to distress calls.

The police spokesperson said further updates will be communicated in due course. (Channels TV)
