The police command in Akwa Ibom says it has arrested two robbery suspects after a Samsung phone that was snatched at gun point was found with them.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in Uyo on Friday, said that the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe the police with N800,000.
“One of the suspects, 53-year-old, was arrested after a Samsung phone that was snatched at gun point was traced to him,” John said.
John said that the suspect had a history of similar offences as he was charged to court for similar crimes in 2024.
She said that the other suspect was arrested after he brought the bribe to the Special Weapon and Tactics Unit (SWAT) to secure the release of the main suspect.
According to her, the suspect was taken into custody after the offer was rejected.
John said that a police officer in charge of the SWAT unit, CSP Ebong Thompson, rejected the sun of N800,000 bribe offered to him on Wednesday, July 30.
She said that the money was intended to secure the release of a robbery suspect and also to cover up the crime.
John said that all officers concerned with this discreet investigation received a commendation letter from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare.
The command spokesman warned members of the public to desist from compromising police investigation. (NAN)
