The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended a 40-year-old man, Usman Ahmed, of Abba Ibrahim Estate in Damaturu, for allegedly assaulting a female health worker at the Specialist Hospital Damaturu, the state capital.
Spokesman of the Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect reportedly used a neem stick to attack the health worker after a dispute over medical attention.
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested following a distress call from the hospital’s security personnel, and taken to the ‘C’ Divisional Police headquarters.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the act and warned against taking the law into one’s own hands.
He assures that heavier penalties will be imposed on anyone found guilty.
The CP also advised community to always inform authorities about violent incidents or unprofessional conduct while tasking them to encourage peaceful resolution of disputes and respect and protect health workers’ rights.
He further assured that the Command will continue to arrest and prosecute individuals engaging in such violent behavior. (LEADERSHIP)
