Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has reacted to the Lagos government’s decision to rename the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop, in honour of the rapper and Bariga native, Olamide Adedeji.

Reacting, Charly Boy expressed dismissive or indifferent attitude towards the change.

“Na dem sabi,” Charly Boy told Daily Post on Saturday.

The renaming is part of a broader initiative by the Lagos government to change the names of some roads and landmarks in the state to honour notable Nigerians, particularly from the entertainment and sports industries.

Other locations in Bariga that have been renamed include Ilaje Road, now King Sunny Ade Road, honoring the Juju music legend; Bariga Road, now Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, recognising the Nigerian President and former Lagos Governor; and Community Road, Akoka, now Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road, for the current Lagos Governor.

Additionally, Ajidagan Street has been renamed Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, Ifeanyi Street is now Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, named after singer 9ice, Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street, in honor of the Afro-pop veteran, and Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro is now Bukayo Saka Street, after the Arsenal and England football star of Nigerian descent.

The renaming has stirred reactions from social media users, with some questioning the historical accuracy and motivations behind the changes. (Saturday Tribune)
