Ismail Oreniwon receiving treatment at LASUTH after surviving a brutal attack by hoodlums in Mushin
A 45-year-old man, Ismail Oreniwon, is battling for survival at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after he was brutally attacked and thrown off a pedestrian bridge by suspected hoodlums in Mushin, Lagos.
Oreniwon, popularly known in his Oshodi-Arowojobe community as “LC,” was said to be returning home on July 9 when he was accosted by the attackers near the Ogunmokun area of Mushin.
He had Initially tried to cross the railway tracks but turned around after being stopped by the miscreants.
He then attempted to use the pedestrian bridge, but the hoodlums followed him and reportedly beat him up before pushing him off the bridge.
He landed face-first on the rail line below, sustaining multiple fractures in his mouth and lower body.
Some passersby rushed him to Mushin General Hospital, where he received emergency treatment.
A medical report from Fit Plus Healthcare, signed by Dr. Ita U., revealed severe pelvic and spinal fractures, including a “multi-fragmentary fracture of the right acetabulum with extension to the iliac bone,” among other serious injuries.
The medical report read, “Also noted is a transverse fracture to the SS vertebra. A chip fracture fragment is seen interior to the interior to the right pubic bone. There’s widening of the pubic symphysis with external rotation of the right ischial bone. Mild widening of the inferior aspect of the left sacroiliac joint is also noted.
“The right sacroiliac and left acetabulofemoral joints are preserved. No dislocation of the scetabulofemoral or sacroiliac joints is seen bilaterally. The visualised proximal femora and left hemipelvic bones are intact. The bone density is normal. The overlying soft tissue planes appear normal. Conclusion: There’s the Right acetabular fracture, involving the anterior and posterior walls and columns with Tile type C2 pelvic fracture.”
He was later transferred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, which referred him to LASUTH for urgent surgery.
Oreniwon, who is married with children, now needs about N8m for critical surgeries on his mouth and legs. He remains in severe pain and is appealing to the public for help.
Speaking to PUNCH Online from his hospital bed at LASUTH, Oreniwon struggled to speak due to injuries to his mouth but managed to recount the ordeal.
He said, “Two of them chased me. My leg is also broken. The wound is healing up. At first, I used to soil myself because I wasn’t conscious. We have spent almost N300,000 in the previous hospital. I am using drugs daily. Only the surgery is left and we need around eight million naira.”
Oreniwon is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians, community leaders, politicians and religious organisations to come to his aid.
