The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, passed away on Friday in Abuja at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness.

Dr. Bello, the 16th Emir of Gusau, ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, following the death of his father. A seasoned civil servant, he rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the former Sokoto State and later in Zamfara, before assuming the traditional leadership role, which he held for over a decade.

Confirming the Emir’s passing, Sulaiman Idis, spokesperson for Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, issued a statement expressing the governor’s deep sorrow and sympathy to the people of the state.

Governor Lawal described the late Emir as a personal loss, calling him a dependable royal father and an influential leader who worked tirelessly to improve the welfare of the state.

“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate, and the people of the state,” the governor said.

He emphasized the Emir’s significant contributions, highlighting his 10 years of service as a traditional ruler, marked by unwavering dedication, leadership, and spiritual strength.

Governor Lawal added, “His passing is a tremendous loss not just to Zamfara but to Northern Nigeria and the country at large. I have lost a father and a trusted advisor whose wisdom and guidance were invaluable.”

He prayed for the Emir’s forgiveness and eternal rest, saying, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.” (Lagos Television)
