Three teenagers: Habibu Mohammed, aged 16; Abubakar Mohammed, aged 16; and Zailani Sule, aged 14, all residents of Durum Village in Bauchi Local Government Area, have died as a result of drowning.
The tragic Incident occurred in Jinkiri Village, Tirwun Ward, Bauchi LGA, following an accident while the teenagers were swimming in a nearby river.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, “The incident took place around 1300hrs, and despite immediate efforts to seek medical assistance, the teenagers were pronounced dead before reaching the hospital.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenagers had been engaged in mining activities before deciding to swim in the river.
In light of the heartbreaking situation, the Nigeria Police Force, Bauchi State Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed its deepest condolences to the affected families.
He also underscored the critical need for heightened safety awareness during water-related activities, especially during inclement weather.
An investigation into the tragic circumstances has been launched, and the bodies have been released to the families for burial following an examination at the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.
The Command reassured the public of its commitment to promoting safety and raising awareness within the community to prevent similar incidents in the future. (Nigerian Tribune)
