Idris explained that, the action of the Police was a decisive move to ensure justice in a horrifying case that has lingered since February 2025.

According to him, “the Nigeria Police Force, Kebbi State Command, has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Shanga Local Government Area to arrest ten suspects involved in the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old survivor from Tungar Giwa, Shanga LGA Kebbi state.

“The tragic case, which has sparked public outrage and deep concern among rights groups and community members, involved ten men alleged to have lured and sexually assaulted the minor at different times and in different locations.

“These actions were carried out by taking advantage of the victim’s age and vulnerability, constituting a grave violation of her dignity and human rights”,.

He noted that, following months of advocacy and pressure from different stakeholders, the Kebbi State Police Command issued a directive on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, for the immediate arrest and transfer of the suspects to the State Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi for thorough investigation and interrogation.

Idris said: “The Kebbi State Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence (TWG on GBV), under the distinguished leadership of Her Excellency Hajiya Zainab Nasare Kauran Gwandu, the First Lady of Kebbi State and Chairperson of the TWG on GBV, has commended the Police Command for taking firm and proactive action.

“We deeply appreciate the Kebbi State Police Command for their timely intervention and commitment to justice in this harrowing case. We are hopeful that these arrests will mark the beginning of accountability and healing for the survivor and her family.”

The group also extended sincere gratitude to the Governor’s wife,Hajiya Zainab Nasare, for her firm support in the fight against gender-based violence and her tireless efforts in creating a safer environment where no vulnerable person is left unprotected.

The TWG reiterates Its call for swift and impartial prosecution of all perpetrators involved to avoid any unnecessary interference by any unpatriotic citizen trying to negotiate with the case and urges the public to stand in solidarity with survivors of abuse by reporting such cases and refusing to shield offenders under any circumstances.
