The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, has marked a major milestone in its innovation drive with a successful test-run of drone technology developed by engineers at its Transport Technology Centre ‘s Drone Lab.

The demonstration, held at the NITT headquarters in Zaria, showcased the potential of drone systems towards revolutionizing Nigeria’s transport and logistics sector of the nation’s economy.

Bayero Salih Farah, Director-General, NITT, who witnessed the test flight, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the drones, describing the exercise as a significant step toward advancing indigenous technology in the transportation industry.

“This is just the beginning. We look forward to NITT championing the course of the deployment of drone technology into the national transport system,” Dr. Farah stated.

He reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to fostering innovation, noting that, “What moves the world forward is technology, and we should be able to use our own engineers to innovate.”

Earlier, the Director of the Transport Technology Centre (TTC), Dr. Joshua Odeleye, highlighted the strategic relevance of drone technology to modern transport systems.

He noted that drones have the potential to improve logistics efficiency, monitor emissions, and support safer, smarter mobility solutions.
