Ford Motor Co. is recalling 694,271 vehicles across the United States due to a potentially dangerous fuel leak issue that could lead to fires, according to a statement released Wednesday by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall applies to certain 2021–2024 Ford Bronco Sportmodels and 2020–2022 Ford Escape models. Regulators said the issue stems from a cracked fuel injector that may leak fuel into the engine compartment, significantly increasing the risk of an under-hood fire.

“A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire,” the NHTSA stated in its safety notice.

Ford said it is taking precautionary measures to address the problem and prevent further risk to consumers. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified and instructed to take their vehicles to authorised dealerships for inspection and repair.

According to Ford, dealers will install a drain tube to redirect any leaked fuel away from hot surfaces and update the vehicle’s engine control software to detect a pressure drop In the fuel rail, triggering a warning light for drivers.

“We are committed to the safety of our customers and are taking all necessary steps to resolve the issue swiftly,” Ford said in a statement.

There have been no reports of injuries related to the defect so far, but Ford urges vehicle owners to take immediate action once they receive recall instructions. (AriseNews TV)
