The remains of the late traditional ruler, the Awujale of Ijebu, Oba Sikiru Adetona, have been buried at his private home, Ogbagba Court, Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oba Adetona passed away on Sunday at the age of 91.

Islamic clerics, led by the Chief Imam of Ijebu, Sheikh Muftau Adesanya Ayanbadejo, performed the funeral rites in line with Islamic injunctions.

Gov. Dapo Abiodun, speaking after the interment, expressed deep gratitude for the late traditional ruler’s unwavering support throughout his journey to the Ogun Government House.

Abiodun described the Awujale as an exceptional leader and philanthropist, who served his people faithfully and championed culture, development and unity across Ijebu community.

He added that Adetona’s enduring legacy would inspire both present and future generations, having brought global recognition and remarkable progress to Ijebu.

“He was not only a revered ruler but also a father figure, symbol of truth, and guiding light for the people,” Abiodun stated.

Dignitaries in attendance included former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, ex-governors Olusegun Osoba and Gboyega Oyetola, and Minister Bosun Tijani.

Business magnate, Alh. Aliko Dangote, also attended, alongside many others, all paying glowing tributes to the late Oba.

They hailed him as Nigeria’s most influential traditional ruler, whose reign exemplified wisdom, strength, and a deep commitment to his people’s welfare.

Prominent Ijebu sons and daughters also praised his historic reign as Nigeria’s longest-serving first class traditional ruler. (NAN)
