Former Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, on Thursday, unveiled the 7th Governing Council of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), urging it to fulfil its mandate and elevate the university to greater heights.
Igbinedion delivered this message during the inauguration of the 7th Governing Council, led by Prof Ahmed Tijani Mora, who was appointed as the institution’s 7th Governing Council Chairman and Pro-Chancellor.
The former governor, who also holds the position of Deputy Chancellor of the University, represented the Chancellor, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.
Speaking in Benin at the formal inauguration of the 7th Council of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Igbinedion called on the new Governing Council to provide strong leadership and clear direction for the institution.
He emphasised that members of the Council should foster innovation and adaptability to remain competitive in the evolving educational landscape.
Igbinedion said all hands must be on deck to cultivate a conducive, transparently inclusive academic environment for all.“Igbinedion University marks another milestone today as we inaugurate the 7th Governing Council of Nigeria’s first private university.
“Every member of this council has been carefully chosen after due consultation of their antecedents and the great value they each bring to the realisation of the vision of IUO as a globally recognised centre of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, national development and community service.
“You have all proven to be accomplished, distinguished Nigerians in your various areas of endeavour. It is our belief that you will bring your varied wealth of experience to bear on your responsibilities,” Igbinedion said.
In his speech, Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, appreciated the new governing council for accepting the roles, saying their pedigree and contributions to their various professions are unparalleled.
The new governing council of Igbinedion University comprises Prof Ahmed Tijani Mora, Chairman/Pro-Chancellor, and Dr. Charles Edosomwan, Deputy Chairman.
Members of the council are Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, Mr. Osayaba Aikhionbare, Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, Prof. Yakubu Ochefu, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, Dr. Aisha Laraba Abdullahi, Prof (Mrs) Chinedum Peace Babalola , among others. (The Guardian)
