Thirty-eight Cameroonian nationals have been rescued from a locked building in Mowe, Ogun State, after reportedly being lured into Nigeria under false pretences to invest in a suspected fraudulent business scheme.

Zagazola Makama learnt that the discovery was made on July 7 during a routine patrol by the Nigerian Police Force along Adesan Abule Afa area of Mowe, when loud noises were heard coming from a compound that was locked from the outside.

Sources said that after persistent attempts to gain access, the gate was eventually opened, revealing 22 men and 16 women confined within the premises.

The occupants, all Cameroonian nationals, claimed they had come to Nigeria to participate in a business venture referred to as “Quinnet,” in which they had already invested substantial amounts of money.

One Nigerian man, identified as 35-year-old Ndubusi Awareobi from Anambra State, was reportedly linked to the operation and was taken into custody for further questioning by the police.

Police are said to be investigating the full scope of the operation and working to establish how the victims were brought into the country.

The rescued individuals are expected to receive appropriate care and support as investigations continue.

The authorities urged foreign nationals to verify the legality of any business ventures and report suspicious activities to the authorities. (Zagazola)
