SP Abdullahi Haruna, Kano Police spokesperson
The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the attack on the Emir of Kano’s palace at Kofar Kudu in the Kano metropolis on Sunday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to The PUNCH via a WhatsApp message on Tuesday.
“Yes, the command has arrested four suspects and they are now in police custody as the investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
According to him, the state Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Bakori, has set up a panel to investigate the altercation that happened between supporters of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sañusi II.
Haruna, who did not give further details on the arrest, said, “Four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the Sunday clash.
A bloody clash was averted on Sunday when some supporters of both the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the 16th Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, reportedly clashed at the Kofar-Kudu area in Kano metropolis.
The incident happened when some miscreants believed to be supporters of Emir Sanusi blocked the road to prevent the Emir Bayero from passing through the Kofar-Kudu, while returning to Nassarawa mini palace after he paid a condolence visit to the family of late business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.
Following the incident, some palace guards were allegedly injured while some vehicles belonging to the policemen guarding the palace were smashed and the main gate of the palace was destroyed.
According to an eyewitness, the quick intervention of the police prevented the incident from degenerating into a full-blown bloody clash. (The PUNCH)
