CAF appoints Pinnick special adviser

Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has been appointed as special adviser to the president of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, Sunday PUNCH reports.

The announcement was made by Motsepe during a live-streamed press conference on YouTube on Saturday, where the former football chief was welcomed back into the hierarchy of the continent’s football governing body.

“I did not know Amaju is so loved in CAF,” Motsepe said following Pinnick’s appointment.

By virtue of the appointment, Pinnick would be attending all CAF executive meetings in his advisory role. His new position further boosts an already enhanced profile and is a clear appreciation of his contributions to the development of football on the continent.

The 54-year-old Delta State indigene, who had recently lost his seat in the executive committee of the Federation of International Football Association, is making a return to CAF, where he previously served as first vice president of the body under then president Ahmad Ahmad from September 2018 to July 2019.

Pinnick served as president of the NFF from 2014 to 2022. He was first elected president in September 2014 and won a second term after he was re-elected on September 20, 2018.

Pinnick, who is the third Nigerian to serve in the FIFA council after Oyo Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu, is currently a member of the Organising Committee for FIFA competitions. (PUNCH)
