EFCC Operatives
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, raided a hotel in the Nyanya Area of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in search of some suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys.’
The hotel, identified as Joyous Hotel, was suspected to have housed more than 70 ‘Yahoo Boys’ who were later arrested by the anti-graft agency.
The anti-graft agency has in recent time intensified its efforts in cracking down the internet fraudsters.
The chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, had at different fora said their actions are tarnishing the image of the country among the international communities.
Confirming the arrest of 74 suspected fraudsters, the spokesman of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, in a statement explained that they were arrested following an actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offences.
Oyewale revealed that one rifle was recovered from the suspected criminals as well as 86 phones and three motorcycles, adding that they would be charged to court upon conclusion of an investigation.
He said, “They were arrested on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Joyous Hotel, Nyanya in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT following actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offences.
“Items recovered from them include 86 phones, one rifle pistol and three motorcycles. They will be charged to court soon.” (Daily Trust)
