Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso
The spokesperson for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, has said that there have been calls for the 2023 presidential flagbearer of the party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to accept the Vice President’s slot of the All Progressives Congress (APC) if offered such.
Johnson disclosed this on Monday during an interview with Channels TV, explaining that various political parties have also reached out to him ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“At my level, I have been talking to people from various political parties. We have people from the Labour Party (LP), especially as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is in turmoil; they have been talking to us,” he said.
“Talks are going on, and people from the APC have called me to encourage Rabiu Kwankwaso to accept their VP slot if he is offered.
“Personally, I have had conversations with people as regards coming together to build something, but as we all know, it is a team game.”
Johnson, meanwhile, had earlier said that the NNPP was considering three possibilities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, the NNPP was considering joining forces with the APC, the coalition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, or standing on its own in 2027, with his statement coming amid defections from the PDP to the APC. (The Guardian)
