Insecurity: Dickson seeks cooperation as CP dispels threat by Avengers

Governor of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson has asked political and opinion leaders, across the state and the Niger Delta region to show more understanding and cooperate with the security agencies in their current efforts at maintaining peace, law and order.

While urging the youths of the region to be law abiding, he told them to channel their grievances through the relevant organs of government.

Dickson also called for continued collaboration between the government and the people of the region at ensuring lasting peace and development in the region.

The Governor, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, gave the charge during an emergency State Security Council meeting in Yenagoa.

Dickson also enjoined the various security agencies to collaborate with the government in sustaining the existing peace and security in the state.

He assured them of his administration’s support at all times, stressing that, no effort will be spared in keeping the state peaceful and secured in the face of the current challenges.

The governor said: “Government will give the necessary support to all the security agencies and I expect you to collaborate with the government. I urge you all to contribute to our robust debates to better the state. As I call on the young people of Bayelsa State and the region to keep the peace.

“Also, I want to use this medium to urge everyone to channel their grievances to the appropriate authority, so, as to keep the peace, as I call for continued collaboration between the government and the locals.”

Speaking with journalists after the Security Council meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Adeyemi Ogunjelimusi, advised youths in the region to look for legitimate means of livelihood, noting that, it will not be business as usual for pipeline vandals and other criminal elements.

He reaffirmed the government’s determination to make the state safe and peaceful, stressing that, non-state machineries will not be allowed to hijack the security of the state, as acts of criminality would not be condoned.

According to him, the threat by the Adaka Boro Avengers to declare a republic was extensively discussed, pointing out that, the various security agencies acted promptly to put the situation under control.
