Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno
The Akwa Ibom State Government has warned those using the name of Governor Umo Eno to solicit funds to desist.
This is contained in a Tuesday statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.
He said all individuals, groups, and organisations seeking the governor’s endorsement, presence, or involvement in any event must obtain prior approval from the relevant authorities.
According to the commissioner, the unauthorised use of the governor’s name to solicit funds is inappropriate, misleading and capable of creating false impressions.
The statement reads, “The Akwa Ibom State Government has observed with concern the use of the name of the Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, to solicit funds from members of the public for events, as well as the unauthorised use of state insignia by individuals, groups, and organisations to promote private activities.
“The public is hereby cautioned that the name and office of the Governor must NOT be used to solicit funds for any purpose whatsoever.
“Such actions are inappropriate, misleading, and capable of creating false impressions.”
The commissioner emphasised that the governor will not serve as Chairman or Chief Launcher at any event, hence his name must not be used for such purposes under any guise.
“All individuals, groups, and organisations seeking the Governor’s endorsement, presence, or involvement in any event must obtain prior approval from the relevant authorities.
“Any action to the contrary is strongly discouraged and will be treated with the seriousness it deserves.
“While the Government remains open to genuine engagements, due process and official protocols must be strictly followed to safeguard the integrity of the Office of the Governor and the Government of Akwa Ibom State,” the statement further reads. (Daily SUN)
