The Abia State Polytechnic in Aba has commenced the fabrication and production of waste collection receptacles for the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA).

The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Chris Okoro, explained that the initiative is aimed at providing waste receptacles for use in the state’s 292 wards, supporting efforts to enhance sanitation.

State Information Commissioner, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed on Monday evening after the state’s weekly executive council meeting that 26 of the receptacles had been delivered to ASEPA. He said the receptacles would facilitate sustainable waste management and promote a cleaner, more sanitary environment across Abia.

Kanu revealed that the idea for the receptacles emerged following ASEPA’s deployment of over 1,000 sanitary inspectors to the state’s 17 local councils. The inspectors are tasked with enforcing sanitation regulations and extending waste collection and disposal services to communities in Abia’s three senatorial zones. (THE GUARDIAN)
