Brig- Gen Kingsley Uwa, Commander, 6 Brigade, Nigeria ArmySector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke
The Commander 6 Brigade, Nigeria Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, has facilitated the signing of a peace pact between feuding tribes of Tiv and Fulani in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The peace pact signing is part of ongoing efforts to foster peaceful coexistence among diverse communities in the state and highlights the importance of non-kinetic measures in resolving conflicts and enhancing relations with the state.
The meeting, held at the 6 Brigade Headquarters Conference Room in Jalingo, alongside traditional leaders, community elders, and other critical stakeholders, to deliberate on a sustainable path to peace, follows escalating tensions and unresolved communal disputes between the Tiv and Fulani ethnic groups to avert renewed violence.
During the meeting, the Brigade commander condemned the cycle of violence and warned against taking the law into one’s hands.
He emphasized that no individual or group has the constitutional mandate to enforce justice outside the bounds of the law.
A press statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, urged all stakeholders to be ambassadors of peace and agents of development in their communities.
He stressed that true security, growth, and prosperity can only be achieved in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect.
The parties involved resolved to embrace peace, promote regular dialogue, and desist from shielding criminal elements within their communities.
They pledged to support security agencies with timely information and work collectively to prevent the re-emergence of conflict.
Speaking on behalf of the Gassol communities, the council Chairman, Abubakar Usman, lauded the 6 Brigade Commander for initiating the peace process. He commended the Nigerian Army, particularly troops under the 6 Brigade, for their sacrifices and relentless efforts toward maintaining peace and stability in the area.
The meeting culminated in the signing of a peace pact by all parties present, with a shared commitment to upholding the resolutions and working with authorities for full implementation. (Channels TV)
