The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is set to name its Kaduna Council Secretariat after Abubakar Tanko Ayuba former Military Governor of the state, to immortalise him.

Mr. Ayuba a retired General and a former Senator died at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on May 25, 2016 after a protracted illness.

In 1991, Mr Ayuba allocated the current building at No 6A, Muhammadu Buhari way to NUJ as the Kaduna State Secretariat.

A communique issued on Sunday in Kaduna, by Dauda Idris Doka, Secretary of the state NUJ Council, said the resolution was arrived at by the Council after its Congress held on Wednesday, presided over by the Chairman, Comrade Garba Muhammad.

He said the Congress ratified the resolution to name the Council Secretariat after the late Ayuba as part of its Annual Press Week activities in November, 2016.

The communique said: “It is in recognition of his contribution to the development of the Council during his tenure as the military governor of the state.

“The late Ayuba, the Congress noted was responsible for the relocation of the Council Secretariat from its temporary place opposite New Nigerian Newspapers, to the present one after approving the allocation of the land.”

The Congress also resolved that all former governors and the incumbent of the state be informed through writing, of the decision, as well as the family in Zuru, Kebbi State, and in Lagos.

While cautioning members over unethical practices in the course of performing their official duties, the Council applauded the State Government over support to the activities of the council

The council warned that, it would not hesitate to wield the big stick by enforcing all the necessary punitive disciplinary measures as contained in the constitution of the NUJ.

Practising journalists in Kaduna were also advised to register and validate their membership with the union.

Those without minimum qualification were also advised to come forward and register with the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) to upgrade their qualification, get the minimum qualification and acquire the necessary knowledge.

The Congress also cautioned members to stop the use of social media to settle professional scores and or taking internal issues that ordinarily should be resolved utilising avenues within the Council.
