Aston Villa chose not to sign Marcus Rashford for the £40 million buy clause attached to his loan deal. Missing out on Champions League football made the deal impossible for the Premier League club.
Since a move to Villa collapsed, Rashford had his heart set on joining Barcelona, but a move to the Spanish giants is looking more and more difficult.
Barcelona are trying to sign Nico Williams instead of Rashford, which could leave the 27-year-old in a tricky position heading into 2025/26.
Rashford said he wants to play with Lamine Yamal in his latest attempt to forge a move to Barcelona, but it is looking more and more likely that he will spend at least some of the summer in Manchester.
Marcus Rashford hints at position change into a striker
There has been a big debate about Rashford’s best position at United, but most will agree that he has played his best football off the left wing.
However, in a recent interview with YouTube channel xBuyer, Marcus Rashford hinted that he can see himself being a central striker.
“For me, playing as a number nine is becoming more comfortable, more natural,” Rashford said.
“Small things, such as playing back to goal, it’s becoming easier for me. You’re always in front of the goal so you’re always dangerous.
When asked to compare himself to a similar player, Rashford added: “Maybe Henry. He is comfortable playing off the left side and in the middle. And he is a free-flowing player.”
Marcus Rashford ready to prove Ruben Amorim and Unai Emery wrong
Before Rashford was frozen out by Amorim, the Portuguese head coach did give him a chance to impress at United.fore quickly falling out of favour at Old Trafford.
After that match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Amorim spotted problems with Rashford as a striker, suggesting his side lacked physicality and hold-up play as a result.
“The main thing is that they tried. We lost some balls, we played with Rashford up front and we lost some physicality, some ability to hold the ball,” Amorim said.
Unai Emery struggled with Rashford as a striker at Villa as well, with the Spanish coach running into the same issues that Amorim pointed out.
However, despite his stint as a striker not working out at United or Villa, it seems that Rashford is confident about his ability to play up front. (Unitedinfocus)
