Abducted herders, driver freed after N15m ransom in FCT community

Dangerously-armed gunmen

Two herders and a driver who were abducted by gunmen at Daku village in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, have regained their freedom after the payment of N15 million ransom.

Abuja Metro had reported that gunmen, on June 3, 2025, attacked a pickup van and whisked away the two herders and the driver of the van, who were returning from Izom market in Niger State where they had gone to sell their animals.

A relative of the victims, Shuaibu Ahmed, who spoke with our reporter in Gwagwalada on Saturday, said the victims were released on Thursday, around 5.47pm in a forest that borders FCT and Niger State.

He said some of their cows were sold to raise the N15m the bandits demanded for, adding that they (kidnappers) also collected a bag of rice, cartons of spaghetti, cigarettes, Indian hemp and some hard drugs before the victims were freed.

He said the victims have been reunited with their families. (Daily Trust)
