Ndigbo Nollywood New Yam festival holds August 7 in Port Harcourt

President-General of the Pan Igbo group in Nollywood, known as Ohanaeze Ndigbo, will join other Igbo titled men and women at the Igbo Cultural Festival coming up on the 7th of August, 2016, at E-Place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by HRH Eze H U Chuma, President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Nollywood and founder of the Igbo Film Forum (IFF). He said the festival tagged Ndigbo Nollywood New Yam Festival (Iri-ji ) 2016 is an annual event that showcases the rich culture of Ndigbo, promotes Igbo Film Industry and unites the people.

"The one-day festival, a celebration of the rich culture of Igbo people craftily designed to promote Nollywood, is a veritable medium for cultural expression. It will also bring together the creative community for greater good. The New Yam feast is the main event of the day of the festival. Other activities include traditional music, dance, honorary chieftaincy-title-taking ceremony, Ndigbo Nollywood Special Recognition Awards and Beauty/Brain pageant. The high-point of the event will showcase the crowning of the First Adaigbo Umuaka na Nollywood 2016."

According to organisers of the event, expected guests at the ceremony includes, HRH Eze (Dr) G N Chukwumgba JP, Paramount Ruler of Nye Nwe Eli Rumurolu Town; HRH Eze Nyema Onunwor, Paramount Ruler of Rumuomasi; HRH Eze (Dr. Amb.) Onyeche Promise Obinna, Ikemba 1 of Umuselem ancient Kingdom, Etchie LGA; Igwe Sunday Abariso (Ochinanwa 1), Patron of World Igbo Citizen (South-south, Nigeria); HRH Eze (Amb. Dr.) Emeka Ihunwo (JP); The Paramount Traditional Ruler Woji Community, Port Harcourt; His Excellency Ramas Okoye Asuzu (Eze Ofo Ndigbo ‘Gburugburu’); Dr Okwuagwu Ajadikechulu, High Priest of Omenani Igbo Temple. Others are Igbo community associations, Igbo traditional dancers, masquerades, Ikoro, Nollywood stakeholders, artistes, top government officials and business men/women.

Ndigbo Nollywood New Yam Festival, a travelling cultural festival founded by Eze Harris Chuma, debuted in Lagos State in 2013.
