A 25-year-old man, Usman Mohammed, has been killed following an alleged scuffle with some miscreants over his girlfriend.
Arewa PUNCH learnt that a violent altercation had also earlier ensued, which resulted in a fatal injury.
The incident occurred in Barkin Sale, Minna, Niger State, when Usman visited his girlfriend, Halima Usman, at her residence in the Deeper Life Upper Base neighbourhood.
While the couple was seated outside her apartment, they were said to have been approached by three young men who identified themselves as Barafi, Ayya, and one other yet to be named.
Our reports said that the men were said to have allegedly enticed Halima with an offer of N5,000, which she bluntly declined.
The trio, it was further gathered, persisted, constituting themselves as a nuisance as they continued to irritate and embarrass Usman.
Soon, the situation quickly degenerated into a scuffle when the men became aggressive, leading to a confrontation with Usman.
One of the suspects was said to have pulled out a dagger and stabbed Usman in the back during the scuffle.
Usman was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was admitted to emergency treatment.
However, he died from the injuries, according to medical reports.
The medical officers at the hospital pronounced him dead after examination.
Arewa PUNCH further learnt that the Niger State Police Command officers visited the crime scene, documented evidence, and transferred the deceased’s body to the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy.
One of the suspects, identified as Ahmed Mohammed, was said to have been arrested in connection with the incident while the command has launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining two suspects.
“An investigation is currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and bring all perpetrators to justice,” Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command stated on Thursday, via a text message he shared with our correspondent.
The command’s spokesman, though, promised to call back later for more briefing on the situation; “I’ll call you back later,” Abiodun texted, but as at press time, he had yet to call back. (PUNCH)
