A 55-year-old chief, Itanlabi Akinola, was on Tuesday, arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, over alleged breach of public peace.
The defendant, whose address is not given, is being charged with a count of breach of peace.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 10.00 a.m, at Epeme Town, in Badagry, Lagos.
Adeosun said that the defendant, being a traditional Chief in Epeme Town, allegedly conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by chasing one Mariam Kiribiti, the complainant, with a stick.
“The defendant was arrested and handed over to Police for prosecution.
“The offence contravened Section 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015,” he said.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said one of the sureties must be gainfully employed.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until June 16, for mention. (NAN)
