Niger Delta activist, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, has launched a scathing attack on former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), describing him in very uncomplimentary terms.
The reason for Dokubo’s outburst is not expressly stated but there is a veiled reference to Buhari’s touted move to contest the country’s presidency once more in 2015. Buhari may also have incurred Dokubo’s anger due to his strident criticism of the administration of Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan (GEAJ), a Niger Deltan perceived by northern politicians as having usurped their presumed presidential slot following the death in office of erstwhile President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in May 2010.
In a short statement posted on his Facebok page, Dokubo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), also rubbished Buhari’s stewardship at the defunct Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund (PTF). To Dokubo, Buhari was parochial in running the PTF and saw it as the northern equivalent of the equally defunct Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC):
Dokubo’s words, unedited: “There is no defense that can be put up for General Muhammadu Buhari.....I have known him for over 20yrs and those close to him if they are sincere can attest to it.....He is eccentric....very parochial in thoughts and actions....to him PTF was the northern OMPADEC...the worst cronyism took place in PTF....he left the PTF in the hands of some neophytes at the AFRI Project....he disgarded all professional and well meaning advice given to him that the PTF was not his personal cocoa farm....personal estate or special fund for the north....The attempt by those comparing Buhari to GEAJ makes matters worst.....Buhari is total darkness.....he is bad news and he has nothing to offer....Except those who are born today.....or the northern bigots who see good in everything bad in the north....Buhari was federal commissioner of Petroleum when suddenly some two billion Naira developed wrings and flew away....probe panels were set....late Tai Solarin and others appeared....story story....end of the probe....that was the Nigeria of the Gambaris.....That is what they want with a Buhari comeback......Insha Allah they will not succeed.”
