The Edo State Police Command has disclosed that it has begun a house-to-house arrest of identified cultists in an intensified crackdown on cult-related activities in the state.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, the move was to either eliminate cultism or brought it to the barest minimum.

Yamu disclosed that at least 28 individuals suspected to be involved in cult-related activities in the state have been arrested.

The spokesperson, in a statement on Friday, said the arrests were made during some raids on criminal hideouts in the state.

He stated that 19 of the suspects were found culpable and charged to court after screening.

The statement reads, “The Edo State Command has sustained its fight against crime through visibility policing, community engagements and sustained raids of criminal hideouts in the state.

“On June 4, between 4 pm and 10 pm, operatives of the command carried out raids of criminal hideouts within Benin-City. During the raids, 28 persons were arrested and professionally screened where 19 of them found culpable were charged to court.

“In continuation of its fight against cultism, the command has commenced the house-to-house arrests of identified cult members in the state to ensure that cultism is either eliminated or brought to its barest minimum.”

“Three suspects who were arrested from various locations have confessed to being members of the Eiye and Aye confraternities respectively. They have been arraigned before the court accordingly.” (Saturday PUNCH)
