Shock as Port Harcourt residents discover lifeless premature baby inside drainage

Residents of Ogbuagu street in Mile 3 Diobu area of Port Harcourt were shocked on Saturday morning after discovering a lifeless premature baby abandoned inside a street drainage.

The dead Infant which should be around seven months old, it was gathered may have been dumped in the night by a yet to be identified person.

Landlord of the house where the dead child was dumped, Mr Ogechi Ehirim, told our correspondent that he discovered the baby in the early hours of Saturday after he came out to clean the drainage in front of his house.

Ehirim said upon discovering the baby that looked like a dull, he raised the alarm in the neighborhood and even alerted the police.

The landlord however hinted that the baby may have been abandoned near his house by those trying to undo him, calling on the police to investigate the matter.

“My name is Ogechi Ehirim, this morning I came out in front of my yard because every morning I like doing clean up in front of my yard.

“As I was doing the clean up, I saw a small baby inside the gutter in front of my yard. I thought it was a dull baby, so I left it.

“Somebody now called me that I should come and see, that what I saw is a human being, not a dull baby. I brought it out, it is a small baby.

“I am calling everybody, the Police, let everybody help me find out who has the baby. Since I bought the compound I have not had any rest of mind. After God gave me money to buy the compound, I have been having issues, I don’t know what I did to people.

“Every corner they are pursuing me sometimes, I cannot sleep at night, cat will be crying at my window. Sometimes I will come out from my yard to see something I don’t expect, I don’t understand anymore.

“I am begging everybody to help me, I did not do anything wrong to buy a yard, I did not steal money to buy the yard. I don’t know what I did to people that are pursuing me,” Ehirim quarried.

Our correspondent who visited the area, learnt that Mr Ehirim reported the incident to Nkpolu Police Division at Rivers State University roundabout, Port Harcourt. (Daily Independent)
