The Association of Nigerian Refineries and Petroleum Marketers (ANRPM) has called on the federal government to adopt an amnesty programme for artisanal refiners and pipeline vandals, similar to the Presidential Amnesty Programme for Niger Delta militants.
In a press briefing held on Thursday following its Board of Trustees and National Executive Council meeting held in Abuja, the national spokesperson of the association, Judith Nwachukwu, said the move would help integrate repentant operators into the formal economy.
“We are calling for a presidential committee to oversee the rehabilitation and reintegration of these operators. The process should include collation of data, skills development, and approval of modular refineries to accommodate host communities,” the association said.
The group also declared support for the federal government’s proposed 5% users’ charge on fuel pump prices to fund road maintenance but said implementation must be tied to immediate repairs on key transport corridors. (Daily Trust)
