The Police in Kogi have confirmed the murder of an Okada man by a suspected bike snatcher in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.
SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the Kogi Command Spokesman, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Thursday in Lokoja.
Ovye-Aya explained that the sad incident occurred around 8.30p.m. on Wednesday.
According to the spokesman, the victim was flagged down by the suspect still at large and requested to be taken to an area, which turned out to be lonely with a promise to pay him a higher amount.
“The Okada man had agreed probably because of the promise of a higher pay. But on getting to the lonely place, the passenger matchetted the bike man and vanished with the motorcycle.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but sadly gave up the ghost before help treatment could get to him,” he said.
He urged okada riders to always be wary of any promise of higher payment by unsuspected passengers to take them to lonely places.
Ovye-Aya said that investigation into the incident has commenced in earnest with a view to arrest the fleeing culprit.
Meanwhile, the Owe Titun Development Association in Kabba has condemned the killing of the victim identified as Adewale Jethro in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Sunday-Olorunmaiye.
“We are heartbroken by the horrifying details of this incident, his motorcycle was stolen, and the weapon used to scatter his head and skull was left at the scene.
“This is not just a crime, it is a barbaric violation of human dignity and a threat to the peace of our community that calls for police thorough investigation to bring the culprit to book,” the statement added. (NAN)
