Two young men, identified as Samuel Marcus and Aruoture, have been shot dead in a suspected retaliatory attack near the railway station in Abraka, barely hours after the killing of four suspected Fulani kidnappers sent shockwaves through the community.
Preliminary reports indicate that Marcus and his brother, Aruoture, were ambushed while driving through the railway corridor, a location previously flagged by residents as a dangerous zone, with a history of attacks and ambushes allegedly linked to suspected criminal elements.
The victims’ vehicle was found riddled with bullets, and Marcus was confirmed dead at the scene, while his brother was later confirmed dead.
The development has raised concerns among locals, with many scared that this incident may be connected to the earlier incident involving the death of the four kidnap suspects, whose case went viral on social media earlier in the day.
Military personnel have since arrived at the scene, and the area has been secured to forestall further violence.
Investigations are ongoing, and the atmosphere in the community remains tense. (The Guardian)
