The Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State
Officials at the Federal University, Otuoke, in Bayelsa State, sent several students home on Monday for violating the institution?s dress code.
The enforcement, carried out under the directive of the Vice Chancellor?s office, began around 7:00 a.m. at the university?s main entrance.
Students found breaching the dress code included those with tinted or coloured hair, female students wearing leggings or tight jeans, and male students dressed in sagging jeans.
A lecturer and prominent member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Socrates Ebo, reiterated the dress code guidelines on the institution?s social media platform, urging students to adhere strictly to the rules.
Ebo specified that acceptable attire includes suits, trousers, shirts, skirts, blouses, gowns, and native wear. For footwear, sandals, covered shoes, canvas, and sneakers are permitted. He noted that body-revealing clothes, ripped jeans, and dyed hair are no longer allowed on campus.
?Many believe this kind of dress code should be adopted in all universities to promote discipline and proper appearance among students,? Ebo remarked. (The Guardian, but headline rejigged)
