Seven passengers, including the paddler, drowned on June 2, 2025, when a canoe capsized while traveling from Gidan Hussaini to Sabon Garin Hussaini in Sokoto State.
Zagazola Makama reliably learnt that the incident occurred at about 1100 hours, and all seven occupants lost their lives.
Security operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene and blocked access to the riverside to prevent a large crowd of relatives from gathering.
A local rescue team was mobilized to recover the bodies, which were subsequently released to the victims? families for burial. (Zagazola)
