Dangerously-armed herdsmen
Eze Junior, a ten year old boy from Amakohia-Ubi, in Owerri-West Local Government Area of Imo State, has rescued his father from herdsmen who attacked him on Monday morning in his farm.
The brave boy was said to have accompanied his father, Eze Anorue, to his farm at about 8 am when two herders jumped out from the bush close to the farm and shot him.
However noticing that their bullets could not penetrate Anorue who is a licensed hunter they decided to machete him. His son who had earlier fled a little distance on siting the herders, immediately returned to assist his father.
The boy too just like his father had the bullets repelled from his body when the herders shot at him , he brought out his own machete to confront the herders fortunately vigilantes who had earlier agreed to comb surrounding bushes in their farmland with hunters were already approaching and heard the gunshot .
On siting the vigilantes, the herdsmen were said to have disappeared into a nearby bush and all effort to catch them did not yield any result.
While his son was unhurt, Anorue was hurriedly taken to the hospital for treatment where he is presently in stable condition.
?Yes, he?s ok he is in stable condition except for a machete cut on his hand, we hope he would be alright,? the source said.
The source recalled that the same hunter was in 2019, attacked by herders in same community, inflicting serious injuries on him and made away with his motorcycle he rode to the bush with for hunting.
?He is a well-known hunter. He went to the bush at about 9 pm to hunt before he met the herders who attacked him, cutting him with machete before forcefully taking his motorcycle from him. A similar incident happened today. He had gone ahead with his son to his farm after planning to comb the bush with the vigilantes. That was how they were able to save him,? the source narrated.
Also, recall that a couple was attacked in the same community but, this time, the herdsmen succeeded in killing the husband, while the wife ran away.
The community has been under invasion by the herders for quite some time now. Sources said the reason for the attack may not be unconnected with the blunt refusal of the people to allow them graze on their land. (Daily Sun)
