The building sealed by the Oyo State Government following its collapse on Sunday, June 1, 2025
The Oyo State Government has sealed off a building under construction belonging to a popular restaurant located in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, the state capital, after it collapsed on Sunday night.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, disclosed this to newsmen after an on-the-spot assessment of the collapsed building.
The building caved in during the rainstorm that affected some parts of the state capital.
Akin-Funmilayo said the action was to prevent casualty, ensure the safety of lives and properties, and also to allow the government to come out with adequate reports on the cause of the incident.
The commissioner noted that some of the building materials used for the construction of the collapsed building were sub-standard and of low quality.
He added that the integrity test would be carried out on the collapsed building and other branches of the restaurant in the state to avoid the recurrence of such an incident.
He also stressed that the outcome of the test would determine the next action of government.
In October 2024, 10 bodies were recovered from the debris of a collapsed building at Jegede in the Olunloyo area of Ibadan.
Some persons were also confirmed injured.
The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, in a statement, noted that the Service got a distress call around 2 am from residents of the area that a building had collapsed trapping many under the rubble. (Channels TV)
