Houses and buildings submerged by the Niger State flood
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed that the death toll of Mokwa flood disaster has risen to 151, and 11 persons sustained various degrees of injuries, while 3,018 persons were displaced.
The spokesperson of the agency, Hussaini Ibrahim, who confirmed the number of deaths to The Guardian in Minna, said some dead bodies were recovered in Mokwa town, while others were recovered at Rabba community near Mokwa.
He noted that some survivors have taken shelter at the primary school premises in Mokwa, though others have relocated to their relatives.
According to him, dead persons have been buried, and those injured have received medical attention.
Ibrahim stated that NSEMA, NEMA, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, were on the ground to ensure that normalcy returned to the town.
He also hinted that Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has directed the immediate release of relief materials to the affected persons.
Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakuba Garba, alongside Chairman, Mokwa local council, Jibrin Muregi had paid sympathy visit to the people of Mokwa.
Yakubu also prayed for the repose of the dead victims and wished the injured persons a speedy recovery. (The Guardian)
