The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has assured Nigerians about the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the health sector. At the commissioning of an e-Health project it donated to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State, on May 29, 2025, Dr. Maida who was represented by the Director of Projects Department of the NCC, Mr. Phillip Eretan, asserted that the NCC is committed to enhancing an improved health system in the country.
"Today's commissioning of this e-Health Project at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State, attests to our collective efforts to harness the power of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve and revolutionise the health sector in Nigeria in a manner that better serves citizens.
The completion of this e-Health Project is a testament to the Nigerian Communications Commission?s commitment to driving innovation, research, and growth in our nation's digital economy."
The Vice chairman further reiterated the importance of integrating ICT into the health sector, while hoping that the Akure project would serve as a driver for subsequent innovations and developments across the country. He said:
"We are hopeful that with its successful take-off, this project will further promote the Commission?s drive to speed up the adoption of ICT in the health sector. The implementation of e-health solutions will streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and facilitate the efficient management of health records."
Dr. Maida is optimistic that the State Specialist Hospital in Akure would enhance easy and accessible health care delivery system in the state.
"With the State Specialist Hospital in Akure now equipped with innovative technology that enables healthcare professionals to deliver timely and accurate diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care, we expect that these will improve patient satisfaction and positive health outcomes.
"This is because the benefits of this project go beyond the hospital walls to the larger community and set a precedent for other healthcare institutions nationwide," he added.
The Vice Chairman appreciated the stakeholders who contributed to the realization of the project.
"Let me conclude by expressing my heartfelt gratitude to all our stakeholders who have contributed to the realisation of this project. Your dedication, expertise, and support have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. It is through such collaborative endeavours that we can continue to drive progress and innovation in our country.
