The accidented bus
No fewer than 20 members of the Kano State contingent in the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta. Ogun State have lost their lives in a fatal weekend crash.
Witnesses said the accident happened in Kura Local Government Area, about 30 minutes drive into the metropolis.
While 20 victims had been reported dead, several members of the contingent sustained injuries and have been rushed to nearby Kura General Hospital.
Although a statement is still being expected from the FRSC, the Chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Bala Fagge has confirmed the tragedy
He explained that the bus conveying 30 athletes fell inside the bridge.
“As I am talking to you now, we have counted 19 dead bodies” he told the media from the scene of the accident.
Ado Salisu a former Vice president of SWAN, said victims were conveying to Kura General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the accident has thrown a pall of sadness and. mourning across the entire metropolis of the state. (Saturday Sun, but headline rejigged)
