The president general of Obosi Development Union (ODU), Barr. Chimezie Obi, has warned the Obosi Central Vigilantees not to use the guns given to them for acts of intimidation, harassment, torture, and extortion.
He gave them the warning during the inauguration of the Obosi Security Management and Finance Committee, which took place at the Obosi town hall on May 26, 2025.
More so, Barr. Obi bemoaned the fact that the Obosi security operatives do not possess the knowledge about the ambit of their powers while stating that they would under training for the enhancement of their professionalism.
?Don?t use the guns given to you to intimidate and harass people. They are not tools for oppressing people.
?And I would like you to know that only police officers are constitutionally empowered to detain suspects for a period not extending beyond 24 hours.
?Based on this, you should undergo training for the enhancement of your professionalism,? Barr. Obi said.
More so, in his welcome address, Barr. Obi congratulated Col Sam Agbanusi (Rtd) on his selection as the chairman of the Obosi Security Management and Finance Committee and expressed the hope and optimism that Col. Agbanusi (Rtd) would deploy his wealth of experience and leadership qualities in helping the committee to achieve its goals.
He further stated In his speech that the economic and infrastructural development of Obosi is dependent on the existence of strong security network in the town.
Barr. Obi, who is the ODU President General, charged members of the committee to work with sincerity, truthfulness, dedication, and fear of God so as to achieve the committee?s noble goals.
The factors of inclusivity, competence, possession of expertise in security matters, possession of leadership qualities, and possession of moral scruples were used to select members of the committee.
The 32-man committee has Igwe Chidubem Iweka(Eze Iweka III) as patron while Col. Sam Agbanusi and Nze Emma Okafor are chairman and secretary of the group respectively.
The event climaxed with the inauguration of the committee by the chairman of Idemili North LGA, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, which was symbolized by the group photograph they took.
Important dignitaries who attended the epochal event were Lady Phina Onwuachu, deputy mayor of Idemili North LGA; Chief Okey Mgbemena(Uzie Obosi), who represented Igwe Chidubem Iweka; Hon. Anikpe, speaker of the Idemili North councillors; Mr. Paul Okoye, secretary of Idemili North LGA; Hon. Obichukwu Anyafulu, councillor for Obosi ward; and some members of the Igwe Chidubem Iweka?s cabinet.
?Okoye is a staff member of the Anambra State Ministry of Information.
